BEIRUT — A Syrian national was killed in Burj Hammoud (Metn) following a fight on Sunday night, a medical source and a mukhtar in the area told L'Orient Today

A security source was not immediately available to comment on the circumstances of the fight.

A source at Mar Youssef Hospital, which is located in Dora, told L'Orient Today that the Syrian man was taken to the hospital on Sunday night after being stabbed in Burj Hammoud, without providing additional details.

According to local media outlets, tensions arose on Sunday night in the area where the fight took place following the incident.

However, on Monday the situation returned to normal, according to an employee of a shop close to the crime scene, contacted by L'Orient Today

Tensions between Syrians and Lebanese have been increasing lately and Lebanese authorities have been insisting on the repatriation of Syrians.

After the murder of a Lebanese Forces regional official early in April, several incidents of Syrian nationals being harassed or abused had been reported.

With 1.5 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, according to estimates by officials, Lebanese politicians of all stripes regularly call for their immediate repatriation.
