BEIRUT —  Unidentified persons broke into the church of Saidet al-Doueir in the village of Fidar (Jbeil district) on Friday night in an attempt to steal items from inside the church, according to Saidet al-Doueir's priest and state-run National News Agency (NNA).

The individuals who broke into the church through a window, scattered things around the church's hall and desks and damaged the priest's desk. The Internal Security Forces (ISF) have launched an investigation to find the perpetrators.

According to the priest, the thieves did not manage to steal anything valuable: "They could not take anything because there was nothing for them to take. They thought there would be something but there are only books on my desk," he told L'Orient Today.

The son of the mukhtar of Fidar, Maarouf Mahfouz, who is helping his father with some tasks in the village, said that Fidar has no municipality at the moment. For that reason, the "village is now exposed to security risks," he told L'Orient Today.

Priest Khoury also said that in 2017, his house was robbed. Cellphones, a computer and money were taken, he added.
