BEIRUT — During a meeting with caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed his solidarity with Iraq following Iranian strikes that targeted Erbil, capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, according to a statement published by the Grand Serail on Thursday.
Mikati emphasized full support for any Arab country that faces any attack, adding: "We stand with Iraq against the Iranian bombing that the Kurdistan region of Iraq was subjected to."
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a series of strikes on Erbil, Monday night. The attack was carried out with ballistic missiles and suicide drones on the city of 1.5 million people, claiming four lives and injuring others, and damaging residential areas.
Mikati and Bou Habib also discussed conversations Mikati had with world leaders in Davos, Switzerland, during the World Economic Forum (WEF).
According to the Grand Serail's statement, the caretaker prime minister's conversations at the WEF mainly involved explaining the situation in southern Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli attacks and Hezbollah's military operations. He also spoke of the necessity to bringing an end to the Israeli war on Gaza.
Cross-border fighting between Hezbollah and Israel started on Oct. 8, one day after the start of the war in Gaza between Hamas and Israel.
