BEIRUT — Employees of the state-owned telecommunications company Ogero on Monday organized a sit-in in front of the company's headquarters in Bir Hassan, an area in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

During their sit-in, the employees, who began an open-ended strike on Friday, demanded the adjustment and dollarization of their salaries. They blocked the highway that leads from the Cola roundabout to the Beirut's international airport near Cite Sportive.

Ogero employees last week announced an open-ended strike to demand better working conditions. The salaries of civil servants, including those of Ogero's employees, have lost significant value over the last three years of severe economic crisis in the country. As part of their protest, the employees confirmed that they will not repair network problems. Over the weekend, telecoms outages were experienced in several parts of the country.
