BEIRUT — Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader Gebran Bassil met Friday with Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) head Walid Joumblatt in Clemenceau, sources from both parties told L'Orient Le Jour. This is the first such visit since 2019.
On Thursday, Joumblatt met with presidential candidate MP Michel Mouawad in Clemenceau in the presence of PSP MP Wael Abou Faour and discussed "the general situation in Lebanon, in addition to the latest political updates," Mouawad's said in a tweet.
Ten parliamentary sessions have been convened to elect a president since the election period opened in September, but with no success.
Bassil is seen as a natural candidate for the presidency, along with his rival Marada Movement leader Sleiman Frangieh. Both are allies of Hezbollah.
Joumblatt, along with the Lebanese Forces, Kataeb and other MPs have endorsed Mouawad.
For the first time in its history, Lebanon is struggling with a double executive vacancy on top of an unprecedented economic crisis.
