Qatar donates $60 million to Lebanese Army

BEIRUT — Qatar announced it will donate $60 million in aid to the Lebanese Army, part of its support for the country that is suffering from an unprecedented economic crisis, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry announced Thursday.

Here’s what we know:

  • In a press release, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said that the Gulf country will grant “an amount of 60 million dollars as part of its support for the Lebanese Army.”

  • Qatar’s top diplomat, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdel Rahman Al Thani is currently visiting Beirut. “This announcement is part of Qatar’s ongoing support for the Lebanese Republic,” according to the ministry’s press briefing.
