BEIRUT — The Head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, arrived in Beirut on Tuesday, for an official visit.
Here’s what we know:
• Haniyeh, who is also one of two formerly disputed prime ministers of the Palestinian Authority, and his accompanying delegation will meet with President Michel Aoun, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Speaker of Nabih Berri, according to a Palestinian information agency.
• The agency added that the head of Hamas' political bureau "should probably meet" Hezbollah’s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
• In June 2021, Haniyeh made an official visit to Lebanon and met with Nasrallah to discuss Israel’s 11-day assault on Gaza and the “depth of the existing relationship” between the two groups, al-Manar reported.
• On an official visit in 2020, Haniyeh met with Lebanese authorities, and visited Palestinian refugee camps across the country.
