BEIRUT — Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah on Friday warned the Israeli military of committing “a foolish act” during the month of May, in which, as Nasrallah claimed, the Israelis are planning to conduct military maneuvers. Lebanon’s parliamentary elections are scheduled for May 15.

Here’s what we know:

    • During a speech at a festival in Beirut’s southern suburbs centered around Palestine, Nasrallah said that the expected maneuvers “do not scare us but require us to be ready for a foolish act from the Israelis.”

    • Nasrallah also said that while his party was preparing for the elections, Hezbollah’s soldiers were doing “silent maneuvers,” and that they would be ready for any possible attack from the Israeli army.

    • “I say to the Israelis, any attack will be retaliated [against] quickly and directly and you will not hear us say that we will hold our right to respond, your maneuvers won’t scare us, the elections will not distract us from being prepared, as defending our country is our primary goal,” Nasrallah added.
