BEIRUT – A list of candidates in North Lebanon II, “Stability and Growth,” was announced Saturday in Tripoli, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Here’s what we know:

•  List candidates Dr. Basil Al-Osta, Dr. Younis Al-Hassan, Professor Mayes Al-Jundi, Dr. Sawsan Kasha, Dr. Dima Al-Danawi will run for Tripoli’s five Sunni seats, while Michel Khoury will vie for the Maronite seat and Dr. Saleh Waheeb Deeb for the Alawite seat. As for Minieh, Fadi Al-Khair will compete for the Sunni seat. In Al-Danniyeh, Dr. Abdul Qader Al-Shami and Kamel Bakour will run for the two Sunni seats.

•  North Lebanon II’s 11 seats are distributed as follows: Eight Sunni seats, one Alawite, one Maronite, one Greek-Orthodox.

•  The list will be competing with “People's Will,” a list led by Tripoli MP and leader of the Dignity Movement, Faisal Karameh.

•  Two mainstays of the Tripolitan political scene, the Future Movement and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, will not participate in this year’s elections. Former Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi, who strongly opposes Hezbollah, remains, along with the Sunnis of March 8, Islamist movements and independent candidates to compete for the seats in Tripoli.

•  The deadline to register candidate lists at the Interior Ministry is April 4.
