BEIRUT — Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Beirut Thursday for an official visit after traveling from Damascus, Syria. He is expected to stay until Friday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

    • Abdollahian is scheduled to meet with President Michel Aoun, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Hezbollah leaders, which may include leader of the party Hassan Nasrallah.

    • News site el Nashra quoted Abdollahian saying upon his arrival at Beirut airport that “Tehran is officially ready to cooperate with Lebanon in all areas, particularly economic and commercial.”

    • "About a month ago, during a meeting with the Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the sidelines of the Munich security conference, I told him that Iran is ready to contribute to the construction of two power plants for the production of electricity, with a capacity of 1000 megawatts each, and that we are ready to cooperate in other areas,” the Iranian foreign minister added.

    • This is the second visit to Lebanon in five months from Abdollahian. He arrived in Beirut a day after Prime Minister Mikati described the positive progress being made in the Lebanese-Gulf diplomatic relationship, after months of tension.
