14 indicted for 2014 suicide bombing in Harat Hreik

BEIRUT — The investigating judge of the Judicial Council, Roaa Hamdan issued an indictment for the suicide bombing staged in Harat Hreik in 2014, and charged each of the defendants.

Here’s what we know:

•  The indictment accused 14 defendants of being members of ISIS and having attempted to carry out terrorist acts, according to the National News Agency. The full names of the accused were not released.

•  The accused are believed to have purchased a Grand Cherokee automobile, transferred it to Syria, where it was booby-trapped, then returned to Beirut. The it is said to have been handed over to suicide bomber Qutaiba Al-Satm, who is accused of driving it to the district of Haret Hreik and exploding the device. Satm died in the blast.

•  The 2014 attack killed six people, including Satm, and injured a number of others, and caused serious damage to a number of public and private properties.

•  The five others who died following the blast were: Iman Mohammed Hijazi, Malak Ali Zahwa, Adnan Ali Awali, Ali Hussein Khadra and Abbas Ali Karneeb.
