BEIRUT — A delegation from the United States Embassy in Lebanon met Thursday with Future Movement MPs Walid Baarini and Tarek Merhebi as part of a tour that began in Akkar in North Lebanon, ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections on May 15.
Here’s what we know:
• According to L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the region, US officials met with Baarini in his office in the village of Mhamra.
• They also met with Merhebi for breakfast at his home in Oyoun al-Ghezlan, as they discussed the situation in the country and Akkar, his press office reported.
• The delegation is also supposed to meet with MP Hadi Hobeich at his home in Qobeiyat, our correspondent in the area reported.
• These meetings come a few days after the former Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced his stepping down from political life. Hariri announced Monday that neither he nor his party would participate in the parliamentary elections.
