BEIRUT — Lebanese Forces head Samir Geagea expressed his support for the Kuwaiti proposals on Wednesday.

Here's what we know:

    • “I greatly appreciate the Gulf initiative, which in its articles restored consideration to the Lebanese cause, and established the Lebanese demands in a document that reflects their vision to get out of the crisis and restore Lebanon to its previous era of prosperity and stability,” Geagea, who is close to Saudi Arabia, wrote on Twitter.

    • The first Gulf official to visit Beirut since a diplomatic rift developed between Lebanon and the Gulf monarchies in October, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Ahmad Nasser al-Mohammad Al-Sabah on Saturday handed Lebanese officials a list of demands from the Gulf states.

    • On Sunday, Reuters cited diplomatic sources as saying the proposals presented by Kuwait's foreign minister to Lebanon focused on implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and holding elections on time. They also, according to the sources, included remaining committed to the 1989 Taif Agreement that ended Lebanon's Civil War, tightening controls on exports to the Gulf to prevent drug smuggling and cooperation between Lebanese and Gulf security services.
