BEIRUT — Water supplies in several areas of Beirut and Mount Lebanon have been interrupted due to power shortages, the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Establishment announced in a statement Wednesday.

Here's what we know:

    • The pumping stations of Jeita, Dbayyeh, Ashrafieh and Mushrif have been subjected to a “near-total power outage” since last Saturday, the establishment said.

    • This has meant “a near-complete cessation of water supply” in the coastal and central regions of the Metn, Achrafieh, Burj al-Barajneh, Hay al-Salam, and Aramoun.

    • Some critical infrastructure, including water pumping stations, require electric current from Electricité du Liban to operate, while many households and businesses have instead resorted to private generators to adapt to extremely low EDL hours of service.

    • Water supply will return to normal levels once the supply of electricity is improved, the establishment said.
