Hariri returns to Beirut, meets with Mikati

BEIRUT – Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who has been in the United Arab Emirates for the last several months, returned to Beirut on Thursday, a source close to Hariri told L’Orient Today. Within hours of his arrival, Hariri met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, the premier's media office said in a statement.

Here’s what we know:

    • Hariri withdrew from political life and left for the UAE after failing to form a government.

    • Many have questioned whether the Future Movement leader will participate in parliamentary elections this May. According to the source, Hariri will hold meetings with the deputies representing his party as well as the party's executive board before deciding whether or not to participate. 

    • According to the premier's media office, Hariri met with Mikati at the Grand Serail on Thursday afternoon and  the pair “discussed the current situation of the country.”
