Egyptian authorities seize 10,000 captagon pills from passengers arriving from Beirut

BEIRUT — Egyptian authorities announced on Wednesday the seizure of 10,000 captagon pills in the luggage of Egyptian passengers arriving in Cairo from Beirut.

Here’s what we know:

    • According to the Egyptian daily newspaper al-Masri al-Youm, Egyptian customs reported seizing 10,000 captagon tablets at Cairo International Airport that two Egyptian travelers had hidden in boxes of vitamins for children.

    • Last month, Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced the seizure of a shipment of 9 million captagon tablets hidden in oranges bound for Kuwait. Last April, Riyadh announced a boycott on imports of fruits and vegetables from Lebanon after the seizure of more than 5 million captagon pills hidden in pomegranates.
