Israel reportedly shot flares over its border with Lebanon last night

BEIRUT – Last night, Israeli forces shot six flares over the Lebanese border and occupied Palestine, the National News Agency reported.

Here’s what we know:

    • The flares fell on the settlement of Talla opposite to Khiam and the town of Kfar Kila in the Marjayoun district.

    • The reasons behind the shooting remain unknown.

    • Last October, an Israeli military official told AFP his state does not want war with Lebanon's Hezbollah but is prepared to face 2,000 rockets a day from the armed group if conflict breaks out.

    • Around a month ago, Israel's Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan challenged United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on his calls for launching tenders for Lebanon for the exploitation of offshore hydrocarbon reserves in a disputed area on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
