BEIRUT – The mayor of Batroun, president of the Union of Municipalities of the Batroun Region, Marseilleno al-Harak, denounced the “the failure of owners of private generators in the city of Batroun to abide by pricing set by the Energy Ministry, despite repeated calls and warnings from the municipality.”
Here’s what we know:
• The mayor pointed out in a statement that “citizens are not able to afford unjust prices under difficult economic and living conditions.”
• Al-Harak called on people “not to pay any additional amount from the price specified by the Energy Ministry,” appealing to “the Economy Ministry and its observers to do the necessary and control violations committed by generator owners.”
• He addressed the people saying: "We are by your side and we will protect your rights and we will contact the concerned authorities, specifically the Economy Ministry… otherwise every oppressed citizen will have no choice but to resort to the competent judiciary, the only refuge to protect people's rights."
