An Israeli drone struck Nabatieh Fawqa (Nabatieh) on Wednesday morning, wounding three people, including two soldiers, our correspondent in southern Lebanon reports. According to information from a medical source, a family had gone to the site under Lebanese Army escort when a missile was fired from a drone. Among the three wounded are two soldiers and one civilian.
This strike comes after a night marked by numerous Israeli artillery bombardments and demolitions in the South, and as the state has pledged to strengthen its presence in the city of Nabatieh.
This is not the first time the Lebanese Army has been targeted by Israeli forces. Last June, three Lebanese soldiers, including two officers, were killed in an Israeli strike on a military vehicle on the road between Khardali and Nabatieh. Reacting to the attack, the Israeli army stated the vehicle was moving in a "suspicious" manner toward its forces near Kfar Tibnit.
Israel continues to carry out daily military operations in southern Lebanon, ranging from targeted strikes to demolitions, and continues to occupy more than 600 square kilometers of Lebanese territory. The implementation of the June framework agreement, which mainly calls for Israel's gradual withdrawal from territories its troops occupy alongside the disarmament of Hezbollah, has stalled since the last round of talks in Rome at the beginning of August.
