BEIRUT — A woman identified as a “national of an Arab country” is suspected of abducting a one-year-old child from his home in Antelias, in the Metn region, in mid-August, according to the Internal Security Forces (ISF).
According to a police statement published Wednesday, the woman allegedly sought to pressure her Lebanese lover into marrying her by making him believe that the child was their son.
After abducting the child on Aug. 9 under circumstances that were not disclosed, the woman handed him over to her alleged lover, a Lebanese man born in 1999. He reportedly kept the boy at his home for three days before being arrested by the ISF in Ouzai, south of Beirut, on Aug. 12. The child was immediately returned to his family, and the woman was subsequently apprehended.
During questioning, the man said the woman, with whom he was in a relationship, had given him the child while leading him to believe that the boy was his biological son.
The ISF then identified the woman suspected of involvement in the abduction. She was arrested on Aug. 16 following a surveillance and tracking operation.
During questioning, she admitted that she had met the child’s mother about a month earlier and had grown closer to her. She said she had been sending selfies of herself with the baby to the man, with whom she was trying to start a relationship, making him believe the child was hers in an attempt to pressure him into marrying her.
The suspect was handed over to the appropriate authorities on orders from the judiciary.
