Finance Minister Yassine Jaber briefly hospitalized after feeling unwell

BEIRUT — Finance Minister Yassine Jaber, who on Monday evening submitted his draft budget for the 2027 fiscal year to the government, experienced a bout of illness Wednesday and was admitted to the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), where he underwent medical tests.

According to his press office, the results of these tests are "reassuring," and the minister will be able to resume his activities "within the next few hours," after a brief period of rest.

Affiliated with the Amal Movement led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Jaber generally leads most of the exchanges between Lebanon and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which have been in talks since 2020 in hopes of securing the crisis-hit country, now in its seventh year of turmoil, a financial assistance program conditioned on the implementation of reforms.
