BEIRUT — The Israeli army stepped up its attacks on southern Lebanon Tuesday, carrying out large-scale demolitions, mainly in the village of Mansouri (Sour district).
An Israeli drone also struck a van in Dohat Kfar Roummane (Nabatieh district) in the afternoon, without causing casualties.
Throughout the day, the Israeli army carried out detonations, many of which were large-scale, in Majdal Zoun, Mansouri (Sour district), Markaba (Marjayoun), Zawtar Sharqieh (Nabatieh), Ainata, and Sarbine (Bint Jbeil). It also demolished several houses in Doubeih, on the western outskirts of Mais al-Jabal (Marjayoun), and in Mansouri.
Israeli phosphorus shelling targeted the vicinity of Bani Hayan, and an Israeli helicopter conducted a sweeping operation from the outskirts of Taybeh toward the Litani River (Marjayoun).
Meanwhile, Israeli artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of Bani Hayan, Khiam, Markaba, Qantara (Marjayoun), Tayr Harfa toward Wadi Hassan, Mansouri (Sour), Beit Lif, Sarbine, Braasheet (Bint Jbeil), and Dohat Kfar Roummane. The artillery shelling was particularly intense on Bani Hayan, with at least 10 additional heavy shells hitting the village in the afternoon, causing fires.
Israeli forces opened machine gun fire on Beit Lif, Haddatha (Bint Jbeil), and Yohmor al-Shaqif (Nabatieh).
Israeli forces also set olive groves on fire between Haddatha and Haris (Bint Jbeil). They also ignited fires in the region of al-Wadi in Ainata and the height of Jabal al-Warda in Markaba.
Israeli military vehicles were also spotted moving in Houla, Markaba, Mansouri, as well as from Taybeh toward Qantara (Marjayoun). Later in the afternoon, an Israeli Merkava tank advanced and took up position in the "Rabeh" neighborhood of Mansouri.
Israel also conducted a large sweeping operation on the village of Haddatha, and an Israeli drone launched two stun grenades on Yater (Bint Jbeil).
In a separate incident, a citizen was wounded as a result of the detonation of a war remnant in Tayr Debba (Sour).
On Monday night, the Israeli army carried out detonations in Haddatha and the outskirts of Haris (Bint Jbeil). Israeli vehicles were also spotted moving in Zawtar Sharqieh toward Mayfadoun (Nabatieh), coinciding with a sweeping operation targeting the area.
Israeli artillery shelling also targeted Wadi Zibqine (Sour district), Haddatha, Wadi Ayoun on the outskirts of Sarbine, the Ali Taher ridge, Dohat Kfar Roummane, and Wadi Slouqi (Marjayoun).
The Israeli army continues to demolish infrastructure on a daily basis in villages it still occupies, despite a fragile cease-fire in place since June.
These attacks have increased recently in parallel with a lack of major progress in direct talks between Beirut and Tel Aviv. The talks are part of a framework agreement to establish "pilot zones" where the Lebanese Army is expected to disarm Hezbollah in exchange for Israeli withdrawal.
Hezbollah, for its part, says it respects the cease-fire established under the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the U.S., despite the agreement expiring about a week ago without being extended.
