SOUTH LEBANON — Two Israeli soldiers were injured in an “operational accident” in southern Lebanon on Friday, the Israeli army said on X Sunday, as Israeli forces continued shelling and demolition operations across the region.
One of the two soldiers was injured seriously and the other lightly, and they were subsequently evacuated for medical treatment. As of late morning, the incident was still under investigation.
This development comes at a time when fears of the war expanding in Lebanon remain high. The Israeli army is no longer content merely to maintain the positions it occupies along the border. In recent weeks, it has continued its operations of destruction, consolidated its fixed positions, and gradually expanded its perimeter of action.
Israeli army continues to shell Mansouri
Israeli occupying troops continues their attacks in southern Lebanon overnight, targeting Mansouri with artillery fire, our regional correspondent reported. No fewer than 35 shells were fired at the coastal village in the Sour district overnight, even though Israel claimed earlier in the week to have “completed its operation” there and destroyed “eight tunnels” belonging to Hezbollah. Mansouri is the northernmost point on the coast of the “buffer zone” established by the Israeli army.
Additionally, Israeli artillery fire also struck several areas in southern Lebanon. On Sunday morning, shelling reached the outskirts of Braasheet (Bint Jbeil district), Dohat Kfar Rummane (Nabatieh), and an area between Arnoun and Kfar Tibnit (Nabatieh). At the same time, an Israeli Merkava tank fired several shells toward Houla (Marjayoun).
Overnight, artillery strikes in the Bint Jbeil district pounded an area between the villages of Beit Lif and Yater (Bint Jbeil), the outskirts of Braasheet, and Ghandourieh (Sour). In the Nabatieh district, artillery fire hit the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit and Mayfadoun, while in the Marjayoun district, it struck the Wadi Slouki valley. An Israeli Apache helicopter also opened fire on the outskirts of Zawtar Sharqieh (Nabatieh). Several illumination flares were also fired over the Kounin and Braasheet in the Bint Jbeil district.
On Saturday, the Israeli army carried out strikes against 15 towns in southern Lebanon, as well as demolition operations that affected houses and buildings in six towns, our regional correspondent tallied.
