Previously, the Israelis had mentioned the possibility of abandoning a large-scale military operation aimed at taking control of this strategic hill, on the condition that the Lebanese Army enter the area, take control of it, and dismantle the Hezbollah military infrastructure there. The Lebanese Army then made its entry conditional on an agreement with the Hezbollah. But that agreement never materialized, with the group noting that the area in question is north of the Litani River and reiterating its refusal to hand over any site or weapon north of the river.
