Israel on Wednesday carried out its first air strike in more than a week in Gaza, both sides said, breaking a lull as the United States pressed a peace plan.

"We carried out a strike to remove a threat," an Israeli military spokesperson told AFP, while the Gaza civil defense agency said that one person was killed and several injured and taken to a Gaza City hospital.
