Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeted the Red Sea port of al-Makha in southwestern Yemen with missiles and drones on Sunday, according to Yemen Today TV and state-run Saba TV.
The port, which is controlled by Yemen’s internationally recognized government, was targeted with several missiles that struck civilian areas inside the facility, the port’s director told Yemen Today.
The Houthis had not claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of reporting. Fighting has escalated intermittently across several front lines in Yemen since last month, with dozens of people reported killed or wounded on both sides.
Yemen had experienced a relative calm since April 2022, after years of conflict between government forces, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Iran-backed Houthis, who took control of Sanaa and swaths of the country in 2014.
