Public Works and Transport Ministry calls for bids to rehabilitate Qleiaat airport

BEIRUT — The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced Saturday the launch of a call for bids for rehabilitation and maintenance work on the roads, entrance, and esplanades of Rene Moawad Airport in Qleiaat (Akkar). Bids are scheduled to be opened on Aug. 27, 2026.

In a statement, the ministry said the work was "an essential step toward restoring the infrastructure surrounding the airport" and would "ensure the operational availability of its access points, esplanades and facilities necessary for its functioning."

The project will be carried out in stages based on priorities and operational needs, beginning with basic infrastructure, access points and esplanades. Work will then extend to other equipment, facilities and services required for the "safe, organized and sustainable" operation of the airport, while the technical, operational, security and administrative requirements set by civil aviation standards are finalized.

The ministry said the initiative marks a gradual transition from the planning and preparation phase to the execution of work on the ground.

The government officially launched the rehabilitation and redevelopment of Rene Moawad Airport on June 6. Sky Lounge Services, the company responsible for rehabilitating and operating Qleiaat airport, announced in late July that it was opening 21 positions as part of the first phase of its recruitment plan.
