BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army said Monday that it seized 122mm Grad rockets on Sunday in the Ersal outskirts, which had been “smuggled in from Syria,” along with a pickup truck used to transport them.

Two Lebanese nationals, both members of a smuggling network, were arrested.

The seizure was made “as part of ongoing surveillance operations targeting smuggling activities across the northern and eastern borders” with Syria, the army said.

The military also carried out raids to locate other members of the network, seizing ammunition and military equipment without providing further details.

“The seized weapons and equipment have been handed over to the competent authorities, and an investigation has been launched under the supervision of the judiciary. Efforts are ongoing to arrest others involved,” the army said.

The 122mm Grad rocket was originally developed by the Soviet Union for the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher. Numerous variants are now produced by different countries and are generally considered short-range artillery rockets.
