A fire broke out Sunday in forests in Ain Jerfa (Hasbaya district), burning oak trees before Civil Defense crews extinguished it hours later, a Civil Defense source told L'Orient Today.

Civil Defense personnel are carrying out cooling operations after extinguishing the fire. The source said the cause of the fire remains unclear.

According to the state-run National News Agency (NNA), Lebanese Red Cross teams assisted firefighters during the operation, providing aid to several people who suffered smoke inhalation, including the mayor of Ain Jerfa, who was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Another fire broke out in northern Lebanon in an agricultural area known as al-Marj, between the villages of Kfar Bnin and Houawa on the outskirts of Dinnieh, according to NNA. Residents rushed to extinguish the fire and contain it, preventing it from spreading to nearby farmland and forested areas, while appealing to Civil Defense and municipalities for assistance.

A heat wave expected to last until mid-August has settled over the country. The Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI) at the Agriculture Ministry on Saturday published a series of guidelines to help prevent heat-related illnesses and wildfires.
