At least 19 people were killed and 27 others injured Saturday in a collision between two buses on a desert road in central Syria, according to Syrian state television.
The accident occurred near Palmyra on the road linking Damascus and Deir ez-Zor, the broadcaster reported. The passengers on one bus were members of the internal security forces, while those on the other were civilians, according to the Interior Ministry.
The crash follows another deadly road accident in Syria earlier this month. A bus carrying Lebanese pilgrims traveling through Syria to Saudi Arabia for the Umrah pilgrimage overturned on a highway in Daraa, southwestern Syria, killing five people and injuring several others.
