BEIRUT — The Cabinet began a meeting Thursday at around 3 p.m. at the Grand Serail to examine an agenda that includes at least two items related to public employees. The first concerns a request to grant an exceptional allowance to employees of government administrations and public institutions, municipalities, and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), in the event of insufficient appropriations provided by the 2026 budget, which has been destabilized by the resumption of war between Israel and Hezbollah.

The second relates to a draft decree aimed at granting compensation for additional teaching hours at the Lebanese University.

The minister of energy and water is also expected to present a new reform plan for the electricity sector.
