U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday that Washington had honored its commitments in past agreements with Iran, accusing Tehran of repeatedly reneging on deals while suffering heavy losses.
"These people make deals and then they break it almost immediately or they decide, 'oh, let's change the deal'. That's not how deals work," Rubio said.
He added that Iran was "begging" for a new agreement with the United States but was not ready to reach one it would respect.
"Iran is begging us, OK, both directly and indirectly. Let's do a deal. Let's talk. Let's talk. Iran is begging every day," Rubio told reporters on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations foreign ministers’ meeting in Manila.
"The problem with Iran is every time they make a deal, the people that are in charge there, they either break it or they want to change it," he said, warning that Tehran would continue to face consequences.
"So now they're paying the price for it. And maybe they'll change their mind here over the next few days as they continue to suffer great losses."
