EU aviation agency adds Jordan to no-fly warning list as fighting continues

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency on Wednesday asked airlines not to operate within the airspace of Jordan after it and other U.S. Gulf allies were struck by Iran in the renewed conflict. The agency last week reinstated and toughened its warning to airlines operating in the Middle East, telling them to avoid the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and over the Gulf of Oman as the U.S.-Iran war flared up anew.

The advisory for the Middle East countries was extended on Wednesday to August 31, from the previous July 29 deadline, while the newly issued advisory for Jordan is also valid until August 31, EASA said. Iran's army said it attacked U.S. military facilities in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain with drones early on Wednesday. The army said it struck accommodation buildings and equipment storage facilities at Al Azraq Air Base in Jordan, and later hit equipment warehouses and aircraft maintenance hangars at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain using Arash suicide drones.

Reuters was unable to immediately verify details of the attacks.

Four U.S. service members have been killed in Iranian attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan and Iraq in the last few days.

"Since the middle of July 2026, the security situation has deteriorated rapidly, with a sustained increase in kinetic military activity affecting Jordanian airspace," EASA said in a statement.

EASA warned that recurrent Iranian missile attacks as well as the activation of Jordan's air defense systems increase overall risks, including the misidentification of civil aircraft. A separate EASA advisory asking airlines not to operate within the airspace of Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon was extended last week and is also valid until the end of August.
