Two-year-old child found in critical condition after alleged abandonment in Tripoli
A two-year-old child who was allegedly abandoned by his mother was found Friday in a room in the city of Tripoli in extremely critical condition due to dehydration, according to sources cited by our North correspondent Michel Hallak.
The mother was the only person present, as the child's father is in prison.
Residents transported the child to Tripoli Governmental Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. His mother has been detained pending investigation.
Medical sources told our correspondent Saturday that the child's severely emaciated body was infested with maggots due to alleged neglect and malnutrition. The child remains under treatment for severe infections.
Judicial authorities are continuing their investigation with the detained mother in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures once the inquiry is completed.
