The draft law on bank resolution is mired in a debate that now extends beyond the substance of the legislation itself. While discussions were initially meant to focus on resolution mechanisms and depositor protection, they are still centered on powers division between the Banque du Liban (BDL, central bank) and the Higher Banking Authority (HBA).The subcommittee of the Parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee is scheduled to meet this Wednesday, July 8.
