Banque du Liban (BDL, central bank) said Friday it filed two new criminal complaints with judicial authorities against a former official, former senior executives at commercial banks, and an individual who presented himself as an investor in the banking sector.The central bank did not identify the individuals. However, a judicial source told L'Orient-Le Jour the case concerns investor Ala' al-Khawaja's acquisition of a stake in BankMed in 2017. Others allegedly involved include former BDL Governor Riad Salameh, who is facing corruption charges in Lebanon and Europe, as well as former banking executives Samir Hanna, then CEO of Bank Audi; Mohammad Ahmad Hariri, then chairman of GroupMed and CEO of BankMed; and Mohammad Ali Beyhum, then executive general manager of BankMed.
