President Joseph Aoun received Saudi envoy to Lebanon Yazid bin Farhan is on Thursday evening at the Baabda Presidential Palace. He conveyed his gratitude to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the Saudi authorities’ decision Wednesday to resume imports of Lebanese agricultural and industrial products, a move he said demonstrates “the kingdom’s unwavering support for Lebanon under all circumstances and in all fields.”
The two officials discussed “the situation in Lebanon and the region, considering recent developments and progress in Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in Washington,” according to the state-run National News Agency. Prince Yazid also visited Ain al-Tineh on Thursday for talks with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
In 2021, Gulf Arab monarchies, including Saudi Arabia, recalled their ambassadors from Beirut after a Lebanese minister criticized the Saudi military intervention in Yemen. That April, Riyadh also suspended imports of fruits and vegetables from Lebanon, claiming shipments were being used for drug trafficking and accusing Beirut of inaction.
