Iran assured on Monday that Pakistan’s mediation efforts to end the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran launched on Feb. 28 are continuing despite the resumption of hostilities with Israel, reciprocal strikes, and the fact that the "diplomatic process has been inevitably affected" by the Israeli strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday.

"Diplomatic consultations are naturally continuing under all circumstances," said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghai, adding that "the Islamic Republic has shown extraordinary restraint" since the breaches of the April 8 cease-fire. However, he said that the diplomatic process with Washington has been "inevitably affected" by Israel's bombing of southern Beirut, saying, "as was clearly stated from the start, ending the war in Lebanon is an integral part of the cease-fire."

After Israel's strikes on the densely populated area of Mreijeh, which killed two people according to the Health Ministry, Iran launched several missile salvos towards Israel on Sunday night, which Israel responded to in kind on Monday morning. Tehran and Hezbollah have for several weeks been pushing for a truce to be implemented as part of a comprehensive agreement between Iran and the United States, and the group has in this context rejected the "cease-fire" that was declared last week following another round of U.S.-mediated direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.
