In Beirut, an 'Eroica' too restrained to set the cathedral ablaze
Under the direction of pianist and conductor Karim Said, the Lebanese National Philharmonic Orchestra performed Mozart, Beethoven and a new work by Abdallah al-Masri.

At the Saint Elie and Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in downtown Beirut, the Lebanese National Philharmonic Orchestra reunited with its audience on June 5 under the baton of Karim Said.The concert opened with ''Lebanon 2026,'' a world premiere by Lebanese composer Abdallah al-Masri. Born in Beirut and trained at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where he earned a doctorate in composition, this musician is the author of several symphonies, concertos and orchestral works performed in Lebanon and abroad. This opening piece, with its resolutely percussive colors, was an interesting and thundering composition.
