US weighs using Iranian assets to aid Gulf allies
The United States is considering redirecting Iranian assets to help finance reconstruction and repairs in Gulf countries affected by Iranian attacks, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The initiative comes as Iran has stepped up drone attacks targeting Kuwait and Bahrain, both U.S. allies in the Gulf.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has tasked a team with assessing the cost of damage caused by Iran to Gulf allies, the source said Saturday.
According to the source, Washington is also considering using Iranian assets to cover the cost of any future damage.
The report comes a day after Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, told CNN that any agreement to end the three-month conflict would depend on the release of $24 billion in Iranian assets frozen by the United States.

US says it shot down two Iranian drones
The U.S. military said Sunday it shot down two Iranian attack drones that it said were threatening international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
"Earlier today, U.S. forces in the Middle East shot down two single-use Iranian attack drones that were threatening international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz," U.S. Central Command said in a post on X.
"U.S. forces remain on alert and ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression," it added.
The announcement came two days after Centcom said it had shot down four Iranian attack drones headed toward the strait and struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites.
Iran later said it fired missiles at military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain, both U.S. allies. The U.S. military said it intercepted six ballistic missiles and that a seventh missed its target.
Washington and Tehran have been engaged in indirect talks for weeks aimed at ending the regional conflict, but there has been little sign of progress.
Hostilities between the United States and Iran had largely subsided following an April 8 cease-fire but have recently resumed, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant share of the world's oil shipments passes.

Israeli army commander pushes to 'destroy Hezbollah infrastructure' in Nabatieh
The head of the Israeli army's Northern Command, Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo, is pushing to "destroy Hezbollah's infrastructure" in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, according to Israeli news outlet Walla.
The Israeli army has recently carried out targeted ground raids on the outskirts of Nabatieh, Walla reported. According to the report, Israeli military officials believe that weakening Hezbollah's presence in the city, one of the group's main strongholds in southern Lebanon, would have a significant impact.
Walla also reported that officials view Beirut's southern suburbs as benefiting from what they described as "American immunity" from Israeli attacks.
Smotrich calls for bombing Beirut's southern suburbs
The main development this morning is a threat from Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who appeared to call for the bombing of Beirut's southern suburbs as fighting between Hezbollah and the Israeli army continues in southern Lebanon.
In a brief post on X, the far-right minister wrote "Dahiya" in Hebrew, using the name commonly given in Lebanon to Beirut's southern suburbs.
Smotrich, whose son was wounded in southern Lebanon during the first week of Israel's offensive launched after Hezbollah's March 2 missile strikes, had already called in May for the destruction of buildings in Beirut following Hezbollah drone attacks that wounded an Israeli soldier.
At least one Israeli drone was flying over the Beirut area Saturday morning, according to several witnesses.
