Hezbollah will not accept a "partial cease-fire" with Israel, senior Hezbollah official Mahmoud Qomati told AFP on Tuesday, warning that the group would respond if Israel attacks Beirut and its southern suburbs.

"We will not accept any partial cease-fire agreement," Qomati said in a written statement.

"The Zionist enemy must know that any aggression against the suburbs could lead to a stronger response" from Hezbollah, he added.

Earlier Tuesday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the United States had approved the principle that Israel could strike Beirut's southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, if the group attacks Israeli territory.
