Israel said it targeted the new chief of Hamas' armed wing with a strike on Gaza on Tuesday, just days after his predecessor was killed in a similar attack in the Palestinian territory.
"Under the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the Israeli army just carried out a strike in Gaza targeting Mohammed Odeh — the new commander of the military wing of the Hamas terrorist organization and one of the architects of the Oct. 7 massacre," a joint statement issued by Netanyahu and Katz said.
Odeh was appointed as chief of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades after his predecessor, Ezzedine al-Haddad, was killed by an Israeli strike on Gaza earlier in May.
