An Israeli strike Monday evening on a building in the village of Mashghara in the Bekaa killed at least 11 people, including two children, and injured 15 others, including one child, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The toll remains provisional, and rescue teams are still searching the rubble for missing people.
Among the victims was Sheikh Hussein Rizk, a religious education teacher at Sohmor High School in West Bekaa. His son, Mohammad Ali, was killed in an Israeli strike in 2024.
Successive cease-fires have failed to curb the fighting or Israeli bombardments in the war, which has continued since March 2.
On Monday evening, as reports circulated of a possible interim agreement between the United States and Iran, Israel intensified its attacks, saying it was targeting Hezbollah drones.
The Bekaa has increasingly come under bombardment in recent days.
On Tuesday, as rescue operations continued in Mashghara, Israeli army Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued an evacuation warning for the entire village shortly before 4 p.m.
