BEIRUT — The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Monday it "continues to work with local authorities and its humanitarian partners to ensure that aid reaches displaced families who need it most," adding that "beyond its peacekeeping mission," it helps "alleviate the immediate pressures on affected communities."

Support for displaced families from southern Lebanon, now living inside and outside UNIFIL’s area of operations, "continues as they still face urgent daily needs," the U.N. agency said.

In Saida, UNIFIL said it supported the distribution of food aid to families currently living outside shelter centers. At the warehouses of the NGO Action Against Hunger – Middle East in Hilalieh in the Saida district, 600 food parcels were handed over to municipal teams from the South for distribution to displaced families.

Lebanon is in its second war in less than three years, following the resumption of hostilities on March 2, when Hezbollah launched operations against Israel in support of Iran. The fighting has displaced more than a million people and killed more than 3,100 and injured another 9,000.
