BEIRUT — Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri congratulated Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on his re-election as speaker of the Iranian parliament, according to a statement relayed by the state-run National News Agency (NNA). According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, Ghalibaf was re-elected to the post for the seventh consecutive time.
"I am pleased to extend to you, in my name and on behalf of the Lebanese parliament, my warmest congratulations on the occasion of the renewed confidence of the members of the Shura Council in your person as speaker of the council for a new legislative term. I wish you success and achievement in fulfilling your duties, in the interest of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people, for further progress, stability, and prosperity. We also take this opportunity to renew our commitment to cooperation between our two parliaments, in the interest of our two countries and our two friendly peoples," Berri wrote in a telegram sent to Ghalibaf.
Berri also received at Ain al-Tineh the chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon, Toufic Samadi. The meeting addressed the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the latest developments in light of continuing Israeli aggression against Lebanon and Israel's violations of cease-fire terms, in addition to bilateral relations between the two countries.
