Kuwait's emir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has reaffirmed "Kuwait's steadfast support for Lebanon and its people, particularly during the current delicate period," during a telephone conversation with President Joseph Aoun, according to a statement released Sunday by the Lebanese presidency.

The two leaders discussed the situation in Lebanon, Kuwait, and the region in light of recent developments. The emir of Kuwait also expressed his support for measures taken by Lebanon to establish security and stability, and to restore its sovereignty over its entire territory.

For his part, President Aoun "thanked Kuwait, its emir, its government and its people, for the support it has given and continues to give to Lebanon and the Lebanese. During this call, the head of state also expressed the Lebanese people's solidarity with the brotherly people of Kuwait in the sensitive context the region is going through."

The war that pitted Iran on one side, and the United States and Israel on the other, between Feb. 28 and April 8 affected the security and economy of the Gulf monarchies, including Kuwait, with Iran launching attacks against these countries in retaliation for U.S.-Israeli strikes on its territory, and closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, in Lebanon, despite a cease-fire reached on April 16 after 45 days of war, the Israeli army has killed hundreds of people in the south since then, while Hezbollah continues to carry out operations against Israeli soldiers who still occupy Lebanese towns.
