BEIRUT — Two days after intervening in Beirut's southern suburbs following rocket and other gunfire by Hezbollah supporters during funeral ceremonies, the Lebanese Army announced it had arrested two more individuals as part of its efforts to apprehend the shooters.
One of those arrested was involved in gunfire during another funeral, this time in Baalbeck, in the Bekaa.
"Following the two previous statements regarding the pursuit of individuals who fired shots during funeral ceremonies in the southern suburb and in Baalbeck, army units raided the homes of those involved. In the southern suburb, they arrested two shooters as well as another individual wanted under several arrest warrants. A quantity of weapons and ammunition was also seized," the army statement said.
"The seized items were handed over to the competent authorities and an investigation has been opened. Operations are ongoing to arrest the other perpetrators of the shootings," the statement added.
On Monday, the army said it had arrested one shooter and seized weapons.
