BEIRUT — A Lebanese presidential guard soldier, Patrick Bakarian, originally from Zahle in the Bekaa, has been reported missing for three days in the town of Jdeidet Marjayoun in southern Lebanon, a security source told L’Orient Today on Tuesday evening.
According to the source, he had travelled to the village to visit his fiancée and was not wearing his military uniform at the time.
Although initial reports suggested he may have been abducted by Israeli forces present in the area as part of their incursion into southern Lebanon since the start of the new war on March 2, this theory has not been confirmed for now, although it has not been ruled out, the source added. Efforts are ongoing to locate the young man, in coordination between the Lebanese Army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
