The Israeli army announced Saturday that a suspect armed with a knife was “neutralized” in an occupied West Bank settlement.
"Following an alert regarding the infiltration of a suspected terrorist into the community of Negohot, a terrorist armed with a knife was identified and neutralized," the army said in a statement, adding that security forces were searching the area.
The same source said no other people were injured. The army did not specify who neutralized the suspect, nor whether the individual was dead or wounded.
Violence in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967, has sharply increased since the unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which triggered the war in the Gaza Strip.
According to an AFP count based on figures from the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 1,060 Palestinians, including many fighters as well as civilians, have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza.
At least 46 Israelis, both civilians and soldiers, have been killed in the same region in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military operations, according to official Israeli data.
