Hezbollah said Wednesday that it launched dozens of rockets at northern Israel as part of a new operation against its foe, as Israel carried out fresh strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs.

Hezbollah in a statement said that "in response to the criminal aggression against dozens of Lebanese cities and towns and Beirut's southern suburbs," its fighters targeted sites in northern Israel "that had been warned to evacuate ... with dozens of rockets" as part of a new operation announced a short time earlier. A little earlier, L'Orient Today's correspondent in southern Lebanon reported several rocket launches from Lebanon flying towards Israel.

Meanwhile, Israeli outlet Haaretz reported that Hezbollah and Iran are firing "simultaneously" at northern Israel. The outlet added that sirens sounded in Jerusalem, central Israel and occupied West Bank due to Iranian ballistic missiles, adding that it sounded in the occupied Golan Heights, without identifying the source of the fire. Sirens sounded in Haida and across northern Israel "after Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets from Lebanon, and Iran fired several ballistic missiles at the area," Haaretz added.

The Israeli military also reported that it didn't intercept some of the missiles.

In response, the Israeli army announced that it had begun a "large-scale wave of strikes" on Beirut's southern suburbs, vowing to retaliate with "great force."

In a separate statement on X, the army's Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, said Israeli forces "will soon act with great force against [Hezbollah] facilities, interests, and military capabilities" in the area. He issued a blanket statement warning Beirut's southern suburbs residents to evacuate and not return to the area. He added that this follows rocket fire from Hezbollah towards Israel "in the last few hours."

In retaliation, Israel launched a series of very powerful strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs. At least six Israeli strikes hit the area, according to local channel al-Jadeed.

Typically, when the Israeli army publishes evacuation orders on social media, strikes follow within about an hour. Nonetheless, this time, Adraee statement was posted on X after the first two strikes hit Beirut's southern suburbs.

Concurrently, our regional correspondent reported Israeli army infiltration at multiple locations in southern Lebanon. Sounds of clashes and exchange of fire was heard "in several areas along the border," he reported.
